Saturday in the Life

Another Saturday in the life of a working mom:
Laundry, cleaning, more laundry.  I know  I should look on the bright side of things:  In just a few short years, I won't have teenage boys' laundry to wash.  I know I should savor every load I put in the washing machine, every load I switch over to the dryer, and every load I fold.  Yeah, right.

When I took the girls out this morning I heard the promise of spring:  birds singing.  Yesterday when I got home, I looked over in a weed  flower garden and saw this popping up:

I warned you about the weeds!  I seriously need to get in there and do something about that this year.  The first spring we were in the house I had this great idea to get those "seeds in a can".  All I had to do was sprinkle them along the ground, and I had a wonderful English garden.  Amazingly, some of the flowers came back the next year, but now pretty much all I get is weeds.  I have seen a couple of jonquils (my favorite flower because it's one of the first flowers of spring).  And, a flower that my mother-in-law sent me for my birthday was replanted in there.  It has actually come back every year.  My dad can grow things like crazy:  he has this great garden every year and their yard is beautiful in the spring.  Me...not so much.  I must take after mom on that one.  I can grow weeds like crazy, but, let me try to keep  an actual plant alive, and, well, let's just say I have a black thumb.  One of my sisters (I have 5) reminds me that watering the plants is a good thing, but who can remember that?  I found some bulbs in the basement that another one of my sisters (who is a master gardener) gave me, so I really think I'm going to try to get those in the ground this year.  The only thing is (now that I found them and am motivated to plant them), I have to wait until the last frost.  Do you know how hard that is to predict in East Tn.?  By the time the last frost comes, I'll probably have forgotten about them.
If anybody has any ideas about making weeding easier, let me know!

I have to put in a picture of this purchase from my husband:

Yep, a brand new kitchen tv!  Thanks, Baby!
Happy Saturday!

  1. Awww, sorry to hear that you have a black thumb. Maybe you should try a cactus? They flower and grow without too much work! :)

Thanks for stopping by to visit my blog!

  2. Yay! New tv - congrats.

I, too, have a black thumb. When the 2 plants I own start to really wilt, I figure they need some water. They rebound in about an hour. Poor things.

Gardening I can do, but it's been a few years. Houseplants are not my thing. Loved your flower! I almost took a picture of some daffodil shoots coming out of the ground. I decided to wait for the actual flowers. That will be a few weeks.

After this crazy winter, I think we're all ready for spring.

Thanks for commenting on my devotional. That meant a lot.
