Meet Me on Monday #1

In addition to Follow Friday 40 and Over, my new friend Java at Never Growing Old has started a new meme for Mondays:

Every Monday we get the chance to answer 5 quick questions about ourselves and then link up on her blog.  Here are this week's questions:

1. Are you a collector of anything?
Nope, nothing at all!  My MIL tried to get me started with spoons.  I've never been to most of the spoons I have, and they're collecting dust.

2. Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
No tats, but I have my ears double pierced.  I got my ears pierced, then, when I was in high school, begged my mom to get my ears double pierced.  She said no.  That was one of the first things I did when I went to college.

3. What is your favorite salad dressing?
I  use Ranch most of the time, but there's nothing like honey mustard on a fried chicken salad, or with french fries!

4. What was the last thing that you ate?
DiGiorno Flat Bread.

5. What was the last movie that you saw?
In the theater:  "A  Team" last Sunday.  Loved it!
On DVD:  I watched "Fame" and then "It's Complicated".
"A Team" & "It's Complicated" will definitely be added to my library!

Now, in all seriousness, let me pour my heart out for a minute.  You know, it doesn't matter how old our babies get:  when something bad happens, you want to hold them close, and tell them to come home so you can fix it.  It's so incredibly difficult to sit back, do what you can when you're 2 hours away, and let them work it out themselves.  Husband did go up to help OS take care of some stuff yesterday, but I didn't think I could ride in a car for 2 hours with my back not being anywhere close to 100%.  That was so hard for me to do, and it broke my heart to not be able to go with him.  OS is okay, and I think he's learned a big lesson.  He's been working so hard this summer, working 2 part time jobs.  It just seems like with this kid young man 1) if anything bad happens, it's going to happen to him, and 2) he has to learn things the hard way.  I'm not going to go into the details of what happened, but, when you look at the spectrum of things, it could have been a lot worse.  He isn't hurt, and, like I said, I think he learned a good lesson out of this.  I just hate it when something bad happens to him.

Okay, enough of that!  Head over to Java's and link up to Meet Me on Monday!

  1. I am soooo with you on how hard it is to see our kids struggle--even when they are adults. When they hurt, I hurt! I have a hunch that is never going to change!!

PS. Love the new blog look!

  2. Our oldest lives 1.5 hours away, comes home once a month for a weekend. He doesn't always make decisions that we are happy with, but he's 20 now and will have to learn some stuff on his own. Parents raise them the best they can, then send the children out into the world and hope we remembered to tell them everything :)

Hope your back is better soon!

  6. Well I can certainly relate to the distance thing...it is especially hard when things go sideways. Hoping everyone is okay now.

  7. I hope your back heals soon! I also am glad your son is ok. I dread the day my kids are grown and having to learn tough life lessons. It's hard enough when they have to learn little lessons at ages 4 and 7 now.

  8. My oldest son lives 2 hrs away too! It isn't easy being a mom let along a long distance mom!

Mmmmm we both like ranch! yum! I do not like honey mustard though! I had to laugh that you had to wait till you went to college to get your ears double pierced! What did you mom say then?

    Thanks for participating!

  15. Howdy. I came to visit from Java's monday thingy. I know how hard it is when one of your children are sick or hurt. My children are still little so I get to hug and cuddle and kiss the booboos. I'm not looking for ward to them being grown and on their own

  18. Glad your son is OK. I hear you about watching them struggle...it's flat out hard.

I collected spoons as a young girl, but got rid of them several years ago because of all the dust they collected! And your double ear piercing story could also be MINE! I had my second ones done in the back of a shop with plants all around...I remember thinking how unkempt it was. And the holes never were evenly spaced. I use the second holes now and never the first. :-) Susan

  19. Hey I have It's Complicated on my shelf right now! I was think of watching it tonight...but hubby is already sleeping on the sofa, so I am blogging instead. I will have to see the A-team when it comes to DVD. I am hearing so many good reviews on it!

  20. Whoo...you hit the nail on the head Mary..the hardest thing in the world is watching our kids struggle..when bad things happen. when they were littl we could try to fix things, as adults, nothing we can do. Just try to be supportive, then have a couple good cries..when ugly things happen to the kids, its the same as happenng to us.

Hang in there, things will get better and unfortunately all we can do is support!
