Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

~  Small Town High won their football game last night by 3 points, so they're District Champs!  That just means that there's a high likelihood that we'll get to play that same team again in 3 weeks, but at least it will be a home game.

~  Flute choir is going well.  It's so much fun to play beautiful music!  Our concert is Dec. 9th...just around the corner!

~  Speaking of concerts:  the community band concert is Nov. 8th.  YIKES!!!  There is one part in one of the pieces that is a little "hairy", and I started to stress over it until I realized:  This is the first time that no one is depending on me to play that part.  So...I decided I just wouldn't play that little part, until the director decided to slow it down just a tad.  That was all I needed!  It was a big sense of accomplishment!

~  Busy weekend:  my sister is coming in this evening and is going to spend tonight & Saturday night with me.  I've got to make Mexican Trifle Salad, brownies, puppy chow, and get a salad together to take for the bake sale/hospitality room for our band competition tomorrow.  This is our major fundraiser, and it's exhausting!  I will probably be at the school from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (at the earliest).  The band director who taught me to play the flute is going to be one of the judges.  I haven't seen him in at least 20 years!  This man is AWESOME.

~  I've never heard this one before:  I asked a 1st grader what he wanted to be when he grows up, and he said a food inspector.  Then we talked about how important it is that he be able to say his sounds correctly, because he would have to talk to people and they would have to be able to understand him.  Always looking for that "teachable moment"!

~  The weather is supposed to be "unseasonably cool" next week.   Yesterday I received my new jacket from Land's End!  Here's the thing:  I rarely wear a coat/jacket unless I'm going to be outside for an extended amount of time.  The only warm weather outerwear I have is a wool coat that one of my sisters (the one that gives me stuff!) gave me a few years ago.  I love that coat.  It falls just above the ankle, and it's kept me warm at many football games.  But, I needed something a little more casual.

~ Have a great weekend, and, get ready for the chilly weather next week if you're in the U.S.A.!

  2. So excited about cooler weather! We had snow in town yesterday, which made me happy.

A food inspector, eh? That's a first! And probably an only.

  3. I'd never heard a kid say that he/she wanted to be a food inspector when he/she grew up. Amazing what kids can come up with. ;-)

I love that coat ... I *love* Lands End anyway. I need a longer coat/jacket ... some of my sweaters are longer and stick out under my jackets. :-o I'll go check out Lands End.

  4. That's so funny that the kid wants to be a food inspector. Wonder what his dad does - if there's one in the family.

I'm on the hunt for a new coat. I love bright colors so its hard for me to find one I like.

  8. When I was in grade school, we lived across the street from the HS and the HS football field.

On "home game" Friday nights, my dad would OFTEN walk across the street to the games, taking my sis and me with him.

That was the BEGINNING of my love affair with football.

If you pay any attention to my blog you will know that my love affair has kinda gotten outa hand.

That's OK - - - it is a FAIRLY cheap hobby. (Just costs me TV coverage to watch the games) 'cause I prefer to see them on my wide screen TV so I can back up the "big" plays and watch them even more than the number of times they are rerun.

Is there such a thing as a football anonymous group?

    No - - - don't tell me - - - I don't want to be cured.

  9. What fun! All the music making you have in your life.

I have a new jacket that I haven't worn yet from Eddie Bauer, which I got on sale last spring. I will like it better when I weigh 5 pounds less.

And a Food Inspector?! What a goal in life!

  11. It seems the older I get the funnier little ones get. What a great aspiration that little guy has. My granddaughter (3) wants to be a mommy doctor or a McDonalds worker:)
Have a great time with your sister this weekend!

  12. The squall coat is cute :)

I can't get over the fact that it was higher than 70 when we were in Chicago two days ago, and today the high was 44 at home. Crazy. I don't know WHAT I'm going to do about walking the dogs--I HATE going outside in the cold!

I've never seen anything like that Mexican Trifle salad. Very interesting! Hope you're home by now :)
