Elusive Wednesday Hodgepodge

It's that time of the week again!  It seems like the Hodgepodge is the only time I'm managing to write a post lately.  The A-Z Challenge in April is looming, and I'm no where ready for it.

 1. The expression 'mad as a March hare' originated with a fictional character who is distracted and frantic. When were you last 'mad as a March hare' and what was it that made you that way?
Since it has to do with a situation at school, I can't get into it.  Let me just say that I was not happy that someone wasn't doing their job, and a child was affected.

2. Mardi Gras this year falls on Tuesday, March 4th. Have you ever been to Mardi Gras, and if so what did you think? If not, do you have any interest in going?  Purple, green, and gold are the colors of Mardi Gras. Which one is most prevalent in your wardrobe? How about in your home?
I've never been.  There was a time when I would've LOVED to go to New Orleans for it, but not now.  It's too crowded, and drunk people are stupid.

3. Are you old fashioned?
In a lot of things, I am.  There are some current social issues that make me think that I"m not, but for the most part, I am.

4. Do you carefully plan your vacations, or do you prefer the days to be more spontaneous?
I usually carefully plan them, but when we went to The Keys over Christmas Break, I didn't plan anything.  It was heaven!  If I'm going someplace new and don't think I'll ever be going back, I plan to make sure I see everything I want to see.  Case in point:  When we went to DisneyWorld in 2000, I planned everything.  At night, we would look at a map, and figure out what we wanted to do/see, then map it out.  7:00 a.m. we hit the ground running, went back to the room around 12:00 to nap and swim, then went back out to the park at night.  We saw/did everything we wanted to, and then had time at the end of the day to go back and either do things again, or do new things.

5.  March is National Sauce Month...what's your favorite sauce, and what do you most often top with this sauce?
I'm not a big "sauce" person, but I guess I would have to say BBQ sauce.  Specifically Sweet Baby Ray's.

6.  What's something that easily brings a tear to your eye?
Monday, as I was on my home from school, I saw a dead goose on the side of the road.  The sad thing was that it's mate was standing near it, just looking around like it was lost.  It was so incredibly sad.

7. If you could own any sports team, which one would it be and why?
It would definitely be a football team.  Not sure which one, though.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
I had a "graduation party" for a couple of my kids on Monday.  This is the first time I've EVER done that for a student, but these 2 boys were in the same group, and had been in speech since they were 3 (they're in 2nd grade).  I bought cupcakes and juice boxes for them, and we played an "Angry Birds" game that CH  bought for my kids.  One of the kids who wasn't graduating said, "I wish we could do this every time we come to Speech".  After I opened up the cupcakes and got a whiff of the goodness, I had each of the boys smell them.  That same little boy said, "How about we stop smelling them and start eating them?"
Hope y'all have a good rest of the week!

  1. Oh gosh, that is sad about the goose. That image would haunt me for a long time. How sweet with the party for your students! I know it was appreciated and what a neat thing that they graduated out of it!

(I won't say, but I got 23/26 written for A/Z, but my theme is very simple this year - revealing it 3/21 :)

  4. That little boy is one smart cookie!

I have to agree with your assessment about drunk people ... which is why I have no desire to attend any Mardi Gras celebration! ;-)

  5. Ok, I'm choking up just thinking about the goose. Just heart-breaking. Animals get me every time. How sweet of you to throw your students a little graduation party. I can only imagine how tough it must be to see them move on to the next phase of life.

  6. I tend to think Mardi Gras is best appreciated by the young, but I might be misjudging it. I would love the food, I know that! I have a situation here that's had me 'mad as a March hare', but I also felt blogging about it wasn't right so I went with taxes. Always an easy target for me : )

  7. Poor goose! We have a beautiful creek and waterfall across the road from our house and a marshy area just upstream from the waterfall where quite a few pair of Canada geese live. I love how they mate for life, and our entire family was saddened when a hunter shot one, the children actually saw it tumble out of the sky, talk about traumatic! The goose that lost its mate walked around honking sadly for days after that.

  9. I agree, I may have wanted to go years ago to Mardi Gras but not anymore. I did that at Disney World each night and it worked out great for me having a plan of action! That is so sad about the goose. So sweet of you to do the graduation party. Like the boys comment on the cupcakes!

  10. I get so mad when a child suffers because of neglect. I have a girl I babysit for who doesn't come from the happiest of homes. I bath her and wash her clothes because.. well, because it's the right thing to do.

  11. I am not a crier but the goose thing would have brought me close... I love smelling baked goods too. It's too bad I also like to eat them!

  13. I too love Sweet Baby Rays, loved the graduation party too. How sweet that is. The goose thing would have ended me right there. I went to a retirement seminar yesterday. If all goes as planned...June 1 2015 is the date.

  15. So sad that the goose partner was just lost without it's mate. That can almost make me cry just thinking about it.
