Seuss

Yesterday was the anniversary of Dr. Seuss' birthday.  One of the things I love about my schools is that they have fun.  The staff has fun, and the students have fun.  I've worked in some schools where they didn't believe kids could learn by having fun.  It was all business.

Yesterday, the students were encouraged to dress up as their favorite character from a Dr. Seuss book.  There were a lot of Cindy Lou Whos and a lot of Things roaming the halls.  I really wanted to take pictures of the kids, because some of them did a really good job with their costumes, but I had to resist the temptation and not take any.  Of the kids, anyway.

Here's the special ed teacher who had the "run in" with Kenny Chesney a couple of weeks ago:
Even the volunteers got into the action:
He was nice enough to let me take his picture, knowing it was going on my blog!  In his words:  "I've been blogged!"
I had to take a picture of the special ed teacher's bulletin board:
They've done an excellent job with their board this year!

Do you remember doing anything special on March 2nd to commemorate Dr. Seuss' birthday?  If not, what about your kids?

  1. We never did anything fun, but my oldest son's school is kicking off a month of Seuss celebrations with an assembly and today was "Dress like a Rock star" day.

My youngest's daycare is doing a month-long celebration as well and today was PJ day.

  5. I am ashamed to admit I never even realized it was his birthday. But how I love the Seuss books! When I was a chid, we belonged to the Beginner Book Club, and the most exciting part of the month would be when we opened the mailbox and that new Dr. Seuss book would be there, wrapped in a brown cardboard box. I passed that love onto my children; in fact, my daughter and her husband have Thing 1 and Thing 2 t shirts!

  8. We've had the Seuss Olympics at the HS-- a trivia/jeopardy game with students going against the faculty. The HS kids read to the little kids, too as part of NHS or something. Our librarian always organizes the fun.

  9. Very cute photos! I didn't do anything to celebrate. I should have though as Dr. Seuss is my most favorite. I'm a Fox in Sox kinda gal. :)

  10. I think it was neat the volunteers got involved too and that the one let you take a picture to share on your blog; I love it "I've been blogged!"

I always like when schools do things like this to promote that learning can be fun too!

We didn't do anything for Dr. Seuss' birthday when I was in school but I've been out of it for so long (graduated high school 1975) but son's school had Dr. Seuss day and kids could dress up and bring their blankets and stuffed animals for special reading times (elementary school of course :)

  11. Saying "I've been blogged" could be good...or bad! :)
I loved Seuss days; how I miss the elementary school days. Going to cry in the corner now.
