Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

~  Wow!  Friday already?  It kind of feels like it should just be Tuesday; maybe that would be because of the snow day we had on Wednesday!  You've gotta love unexpected breaks in the middle of the week!

~  This was my view on my way to school yesterday:
Of course, on my way home, all of the snow was gone.  I would have loved to have been able to keep driving past my school to really get into the mountains to see the snow.

~  This morning, as I was walking down the hallway to my room, one of the Kindergarten boys walked into his room and said, "Today's the big day!"  I looked up to see his mom coming down the hall with cupcakes.  Guess someone's having a birthday today!

~  My nephew's wife is coming by this afternoon to take YS' senior pictures.  It may be cutting it close, but I wanted to wait until all of the blonde grew out of his hair before we had them taken, and it took forever for it to grow out!  He got his announcements last week, so they'll be going out soon!  He's decided to stay at home, work, and go to a community college next year.  He said he doesn't know what he wants to do, and this is a much cheaper option.  With the HOPE Scholarship and my teacher discount, he may end up with a little money left over to help with books.  I'm thinking he's made a pretty mature decision.

~  Hope everybody has a good, relaxing weekend!

  1. So you won't have quite the empty nest just yet. Good for him!

We got socked this morning. We were supposed to wake up to snow on Thursday, but not a flake. It spit snow yesterday and was falling when we went to bed, but not really sticking. We woke up to covered roads and about 6 inches. Still snowing. Not feeling it : )

    Have a great weekend!

  2. They look like mountains to me! As I said, I didn't grow up around mountains nor did I ever live in close proximity to any. I was on sabbatical one year and spent several months on a Franciscan program in Minnesota. I kept marveling at the mountains and was always being told that they were not mountains--they were bluffs!

  4. Good for your son to make such a wise decision.

I love those views on your way to school ... I have to admit that I too would have been tempted to keep on driving. ;-)

  7. Community college is so much cheaper than a university. And all the credits transfer so I think it is a very smart decision, especially if he doesn't know what he wants to do.

  8. Birdie did the same thing after she graduated from high school. I also thought she made a good decision. And it ended up being better than good. She put in one year there, transferred to the College of Charleston and graduated with degrees in Athletic Training and Exercise Science and is now in grad school. AND there was money left over for those books that first year---:) I'm not sure I would have been able to make it to school if snow was within sight!

  9. You sure have some gorgeous views on your drive to school!!

What a smart kid you've raised! :) My sister's 2 boys did the same thing - I'm hoping Princess Nagger will decide to do something like that, too. :)

  10. My nephew is doing the community college too. He isn't sure what career he wants to pursue so he thought he'd just get the basic classes out of the way first, at a cheaper price!
    Smart kindergartner! LOL

Ah snow...you are amazing at driving past it. So, taking pictures while driving eh?? ;-)

  12. I'd love form mine to choose community college, because I don't want him to ever leave! You're a lucky mama!

  13. I think that is a good decision for your son on his further educational goals; community colleges are great for the first two years of higher education; very wise indeed!

  14. I think community college is a great start. Most kids don't know what they want to be for a few years. My son went local and then finished up at UC Santa Cruz. Just make sure he takes the courses that will give credits that are excepted at the bigger schools in case he goes in that direction.
    Have a nice weekend.

  15. I have a summer birthday and was always bummed because I could never bring treats to class.

So glad you and your son are happy with his post-h.s. plans!

  16. Look at you being all winter-y over there! Did you have to bring up the snow day again? Some of us don't get those every time the sky spits a few flakes. :)

  18. I hope I don't see any more snow this year!!! All of ours has finally melted with the sun and warmer temps last week. It was quite cold this morning though. Has Spring been canceled?? LOL!

    Have a wonderful week!
