Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What's something people might ask you for help with?
I have no idea.  (I'm off to a great start this week, huh?)

2. What's something you might ask someone else for help with?
Taking out the garbage and the recyclables.

3.  Did your family take summer vacations when you were a child? If so, where did you go? If you're a parent, did/do you plan summer vacations with your own family? Did/do they resemble those you took as a child?
Every other year we would go to Texas to visit my grandmother and other family members (on both sides).
This is one regret I have when the boys were little:  We didn't go on summer vacations because of baseball.  If I had to do it over, I would let the older 2 skip practices and games and go to the beach.  We did go on some long weekend vacations, and made it to DisneyWorld.

4.   Pool-lake-ocean...which one is most appealing to you on a hot summer day?
Pool.  The ocean/beach is great, except for all of that sand!  And the lake???  Too many things crawling around in it.  Plus, I saw a segment yesterday on a little boy who died because of micro-organisms in a lake.  So...no, thank you!

5.  Have you ever justified using the expression, 'you gotta be cruel to be kind'?  Was it really necessary or were you rationalizing?
Never.

6.  The Journal of Psychology recently mentioned the results of a survey identifying the ten most hated foods as-liver, lima beans, mayonnaise, mushrooms, eggs, okra, beets, brussel sprouts, tuna, and gelatin.  Of those foods, how many do you actually hate? Anything you'd add to the list?
beets & brussel sprouts.  Mostly because I've never really tried them.

7. What's your favorite book or movie set in a beach or lake town?
I don't know that I have a "favorite".  Any of the Nicholas Sparks' books/movies are good.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Check out this video I saw on youtube:  (around 53 seconds it really starts getting cute!)

  1. I finally just looked through your castle pictures in the last two posts. I'm so behind in reading blogs and just catching them here and there as I can this month. It's busy!

I am a huge fan of castles : ) Each one is beautiful in its own way, even those that are now in ruins. Looks like you had a wonderful trip!

  2. I would ask for help killing bugs - especially the big, creepy crawly ones.

  3. OH my gosh, that video has me smiling from ear to ear. How sweet. What a precious find, and glad you shared it.

I think I've only read one of Sparks' books and I can't even remember what the title was. Guess he didn't impress me. rofl Golly, now I'm gonna be trying to remember the title all day.

And if you ever do try brussel sprouts, I let you in on a little secret...make sure you try the tiny ones...they're much more tender and a lot sweeter! The larger ones tend to be tough and chewy and can become 'bitter'.

  4. Oh man yes. I ask for help getting rid of spiders. Especially the big ones...urgh!!! And I always ask someone in my family to do the food bin when it comes to recycling - I can't deal with the composting goo!

Haven't pools got lots of icky stuff and chemicals in them too? I always end up with a rash after swimming in a pool, especially indoor ones.

  5. What a cute video! That made me smile.

Everyone seems to be choosing the pool. I, too, prefer a pool for swimming, but otherwise, give me the ocean!!!

  6. I don't like lakes for the same reason-yuck!
    That puppy is too cute!

  7. I like Nicholas Sparks, too! When I think of the coast, I think of his novels/books.

I recently tried brussel sprouts for the first time. They're not too bad!

  8. Like minds on number 2. I am like you...especially when I need a good cry. The Notebook is the story of my parents...I own it...and drag it out occassionally and cry til I am sick. LOL. Loved the little video. My mom used to sing a little ditty to me when she woke me up as a child, Good morning to you...it used to embarass the daylights out of me when I had friends over.

  9. Oh my gosh, that puppy is so cute!! I guess I do ask for help more than I thought I did--I ask people to take out the trash and recyclables all the time. :-)

  10. The more I think about lakes (and the more I read other people's responses) the more I think ewwww!

  11. Yep... I'm a Nicholas Sparks fan too... I thought of some of the his movies myself for my answer... they are a lot on the beaches, aren't they!

  15. Oh, my goodness, that pup is just too cute! My pups here were having a bit of a fit trying to figure out where the noise was coming from. :)

Now that I've been reminded of microorganisms in water, I think I'll stay high and dry this summer, thankyouverymuch! Hah.

  16. That puppy is so stinking cute, but I would tire of the crying in about 4 minutes. :(
I remember those summers of constant softball. We missed a few vacations because of that and we're trying to make up for it now.
I LOVE brussel sprouts. You've got to roast them with seasonings....and a bit of balsamic; delish!

  17. I'm with you about being in the lake. I thought (maybe wrongly) that northern lakes might be cleaner, cooler, and with less creatures than our Texas lakes.
I will have to check out your post on castles. We have visited a few.
    I love puppies.

  18. I picked a pool too. I love the beach for walking and listening to the waves. Your right Nicholas Sparks is an amazing writer. I just read The Choice on vacation. That video is adorable, thank you for sharing it!
