Summery Hodgepodge

1. I've read several posts and status updates recently describing end of year school field trips. Do you remember taking school field trips as a kid? Where did you go and do you recall a favorite? For any parents responding today, have you ever chaperoned a school field trip, and if so where?
The one I remember the most is the 5th grade trip to Tremont.
As an adult, the PE teacher & I had the bright idea to earn a little bit of money by chaperoning a bunch of kids to Atlanta (from Calhoun, Ga.) to the circus.  We swore we would never do that again!

2. What's something you're tired of seeing online?
Anything that has to do with "socialites".  Seriously.

3. June is the month for roses. Which of the following expressions would you say has most recently applied to your life-'everything's coming up roses', 'there's no rose without a thorn', 'came out smelling like a rose', or 'wearing rose-colored glasses'?
Wearing rose-colored glasses.  It's how I try to live my life!

4. When grilling outdoors do you prefer gas or charcoal? Who does the grilling at your house? What's the last thing you ate that was cooked on a grill?
Charcoal.  Trust me when I say that there's nothing like a Cades Cove Burger:  a burger cooked over coals in Cades Cove.  There's just something about a burger in the mountains, especially the Cove.
The last time I had something from the grill was when we were camping over Memorial Day Weekend...burgers, but it was off of the gas grill.
CH does the grilling...and the cooking when we're camping.  I do the prep work, he does the actual cooking.

5. Are you afraid of the dark?
Not as much as I used to be, but it's still there.  I have such a crazy imagination, that I can conger up main characters in horror stories that I've only heard about when it's dark!

6. Share a favorite song with a number in it's title.
This one immediately came to mind.  Reminds me of summer days at the Park & Rec Pool.

7. "Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves."(C.G. Jung). Do you agree? Why or why not?
I guess so.  For one thing, it helps remind me that I sometimes have no patience!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
The past couple of weeks, I completely forgot to add "Picture of the week" from OS!

Joyce will be taking a well-deserved break from the Hodgepodge next week.  Hope everybody enjoys their mini-vacay!

  1. That was the first song that came to my mind as well, but I wanted to choose something different as I'm not sure I could call that a favorite. ;-) Is that snow still in OS's pictures?

  2. Oh, AMEN to #2! I agree completley - I mean seriously, who the heck are the Kardashians and why would I want to keep up with them, or care where they go on vacation... blech. Your pictures are beautiful, and your grilling memory made me want to go to the mountains!

  3. Oh, a huge AMEN to your answer on #2! How these people got to be "socialites" is beyond me - and personally I could care less about their everyday lives, what they wear, what they eat, what they name their kids...

  4. I want a Cove burger! You made it sound so yummy.
That is a good song choice. There's just so many to choose from.

  6. I forgot about that song...love it!

Great pictures from OS. We've grilled up in the smokies before too (not Cades Cove, but still good).

    Have a great day.

  7. Well, you've certainly made me want to try this awesome thing called a Cades Cove burger! And I can so completely relate to NOT wanting to be a chaperon on some field trips. My goodness, they can wear a person out with anxiety and attempts at patience!

  14. I love the picture of your son; can't quite figure out what he is being hold on to. LOL with the field trip; that does sound like an adventure (Maybe a blog post down the road?)

I just remember with field trips counting the kids I was responsible for to make sure I didn't lose one.

I have to admit there are times in the dark where I get just a bit spooked.
