Wednesday Hodgepodge

Time to get back into the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Joyce does this almost every Wednesday, so if you haven't joined in, copy & paste the questions, answer them on your blog, and then link up!

1. June is National Great Outdoors Month. Have you spent any time appreciating the great outdoors this month? If so where, and if not do you have any plans to enjoy the great outdoors before the calendar turns?
For the past few weekends, CH & I have taken day trips around the area. There is so much to see around here!
 Tremont
Buck Bald
Buffalo Mountain
Laika has even enjoyed seeing some sites!

2. What's a current hot button issue for you?
The whole Bruce Jenner thing.

3. What's a food or treat that 'disappears like hotcakes' in your house?
I think a better question would be what doesn't disappear like hotcakes! We're a family of eaters, so nothing stays around for very long. Unless it's leftovers. Nobody seems to like leftovers.

4. How hot is too hot?
85. Unless it's 72 in the house. Then I'm okay.

5. Do you have an artistic outlook on life? What does that mean to you?
I think I do. I think it's being able to look at things and see the beauty. I'm working on it, anyway!

6. What's one question you'd like to ask your father, or one you wish you could ask your father?
Since my mother passed away last year, I've asked my father many, many questions. I've learned so much about his early life. One thing I don't think we'll ever know is how he proposed to my mother. He told my sister he couldn't remember. I can't believe I never asked mom about it!

7. Something you learned from your father?
Last summer, I learned how to make pickles. I'm hoping for a repeat lesson this summer!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Some summer breaks I'm all about being motivated and a lot gets done around the house (like last year). Some summer breaks I'm all about the "break" part (like this year).  I've read several books I've had on the bookshelf, and I've caught up with almost all my shows & discovered some new ones. I'm just having a hard time getting motivated to really do anything this summer. I think trying to keep with these young SLPs during the year is wearing me out!

  1. I think it's okay to have a low key summer and just re-charge. I have never made pickles, but we love them so maybe I should try. It won't happen this summer though, that's for sure : ) I've been to Tremont. So many pretty places all around you. We're looking forward to exploring the mountains near our new home once we get settled. Enjoy your day!

  2. Whoa. You have some beautiful, peaceful natural spots to explore! There's something special about water, isn't there? Doesn't matter if it's ocean, lake or stream...Bruce Jenner. :sigh: Summer is for relaxing and enjoying family! I've got a list of stuff to do around here, but winter just seems like a better time to do it! LOL

  3. Hmm....I can't tell if my first comment went through or not. I got a weird message about the field being empty. Anyhoo...You have some beautiful peaceful spots to explore. There's something special about water, isn't there? Doesn't matter if ocean, lake or stream...Bruce Jenner. :sigh: Enjoy summer! There's plenty of time for projects in the winter! At least that's what I'm thinking! LOL

  4. If I were you, I would take the summer and put my feet up and read. Motivation is overrated.

  5. You live in a beautiful place! How could I have forgotten the B Jenner thing?! Yup. Another one for sure. Enjoy your summer. Our kiddos are in school until the 22nd. Talk about a short summer!

  6. The Bruce Jenner "thing" I totally forgot about that. Yes, another hot button for me. Everything about it - well, I'm just going to get hot commenting on it here. So moving on, I am a teacher so having summers off use to bore me, now I relish in the time off and enjoy every minute of it. Even if I'm doing nothing. I think it is a getting older thing. Have a wonderful Wednesday even if you are doing nothing.

  7. I don't know that there's anything wrong with recharging your batteries over the summer ... isn't that why teachers get the summers off? ;-)

  8. No, I don't get the whole Bruce Jenner thing, either. It's in the news all the time, it seems. Loved all your beautiful photos, Mary!

  9. What are SLPs? I should know or be able to figure it out... Enjoy the "break"--but I do understand the "get a lot done" vs "take a break" quandary. When I was teaching, I didn't feel "on break" in June. July, yes. August I was "ramping up" again. I might be ramping up this August if I take an art teaching job. I'm so with you on the Bruce Jenner thing. He got an award for COURAGE? For becoming a woman? That's courageous? A mental illness parading as inspiration. Oh, yeah, it's a hot button here, too!

Your dog's face is just adorable in the mirror. There's just something about a dog's head sticking out a car window that always makes me smile.

  11. I love to see doggies traveling with their people in the car! They look so cute with their heads leaning out the windows and their ears flapping in the wind! You've got some lovely Great Outdoor pictures.

And yes, I'm with you on the Bruce Jenner thing.

  12. I've been trying to make time to read and yet, our summer break has been busier than the school year!

  13. Mary, your outings sound wonderful and your pictures are great. You live in such a beautiful part of the country. I'm also with you on the Jenner gender issue. How sick is that and even sicker is our fascination with the whole thing. Enjoy your break and do exactly what makes you happy. It's a precursor to retirement.

  14. Come to think of it. I don't know how my dad proposed either. He's told us many times about having to ask her father, but never how or if he actually proposed.

After seeing it on your blog, I really want to go see Buffalo Mountain. I'll have to remember to tell hubby.

    Have a great day.

  16. So glad your enjoying the great outdoors! Cute shot of Laika. Excellent answer for #2, I'm so over Bruce Jenner. I think that photo shoot was over the top. Hope you have an awesome pickle season. I think what you are doing on your summer break is perfect, continue to read books, watch TV and enjoy!

  18. What have you read? I just finished a sweet book called The Lost Husband by Katherine Center. Cute, but not your typical chick lit. Very good!

  20. Loved seeing your pictures. I can't get over how much they looked like areas not far from my own small town here in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania.
